The Anaheim House of Blues was rocked Saturday night by the Psychedelic Furs and their British openers, Amusement Parks on Fire and Happy Mondays.
First to take the stage was Amusement Parks on Fire, curtains opening to reveal a cluttered stage of crates and boxes. The look meshed seamlessly with the jam band’s style; singer Michael Feerick—wearing a silver glittered hoodie—opened  the set by simply saying “hey guys, we’re gonna play a few songs.” From there it was 30 minutes of straight music with not a moment’s silence, the band keeping a constant tone between songs. I would liken their sound to Coheed and Cambria meets Anberlin, tied together with a British bow.
Happy Mondays took the stage soon after APF, owning the stage and the crowd. These guys blew my mind, between “Mr. Jellybean” and “Andy Warhol on the Dancefloor”, I could not imagine a more energetic set. Rowetta Satchell, the band’s backing vocals, stepped up to become front woman, dancing with incredible dexterity and confidence. Lead singer Shaun Ryder, on the other hand, laid low by the drums with one hand in his pocket. Nevertheless, Happy Mondays could not have been more entertaining.
Finally, as the House of Blues became a sardine can of eager fans, the Psychedelic Furs took the stage. Opening with an enthusiastic yet modest bow, front man Richard Butler sang “Love My Way” to deafening cheers. The hits continued throughout the show, leading to a modernized take on their 80’s songs and successes.
